Race to Mars™ is a serious video game developed in conjunction with Project Lead the Way, Inc. to teach high school students the basics of aerospace design and engineering. Players design a mission to the Red Planet, from choosing propulsion and vehicle designs to landing on the surface of Mars.
In Race to Mars™, players are the head of team of engineers and designers who must get a mission payload from near-Earth orbit to the surface of Mars. Players can choose to be on a research mission, a defense mission, an environmental preservation mission, or a tourist mission. Depending on their choice, players will have different constraints and obligations that will influence their options of propulsion, cargo, and vehicle design.
Race to Mars™ introduces students to several basic tenets of aerospace design and engineering including propulsion, engine testing, vehicle design, space navigation, and lander design. All gameplay is aligned with NSES and ITEEA standards and comes with a comprehensive educator support package.
Look for Race to Mars™ in the App store and on Mac and PC early 2012.
